What video input devices can I use with VideoScope?
VideoScope uses QuickTime to capture video, so you can use any QuickTime-compatible video input device, including any FireWire DV camera.
Why doesn't VideoScope show sync, color burst, IRE values, etc?
VideoScope analyzes the video signal after it has been digitized so that what you see on the scope is what you would get in your capture software. Once an analog video signal has been decoded by your digitizer hardware, there is no longer any concept of sync, color burst, setup, subcarrier modulation and IRE values. Instead, VideoScope shows the resulting luminance and chrominance values as normalized percentages.

Can I use VideoScope to check movies and graphics for legal broadcast colors?
While VideoScope was intended primarily for video digitizer calibration, it can be used for this purpose. To check a movie or graphic, drag it to the VideoScope window. The scope display in UV mode can then be used to ensure that color saturation doesn't exceed 75%. This is most important for colors along the yellow and cyan axes. Remember to take into account any processing (such as gamma) that your encoder might apply to the video during output.

Why can't I adjust DV video from my built-in FireWire port?
The Apple FireWire DV software simply decodes the DV data stream and passes it to QuickTime. There is no analog-to-digital stage at which image settings can be adjusted. If you need to adjust video from a DV source, but don't want to use an analog capture card, you can post-process your video with software filters such as those in Adobe Premiere, and then analyze the resulting QuickTime movie with VideoScope.
